Raised in southern California, Thang is a first generation Vietnamese American. He was raised with traditional immigrant parents in sprawling, suburban Orange County. While studying at University of California, Santa Barbara he developed an affinity for the arts, with a focus on film editing. At this time he also began experimenting with photography.

After graduation Thang began working in Hollywood, first in film post-production and eventually in commercial production. During this time he began assisting architectural photographers in Los Angeles and came to realize his heart was in photography. Thang started from the ground up: self-educating, training, and interning at a prestigious photo studio.

As he transitioned into full time photography he found himself a step ahead of the game as he utilized his decade of film/television experience on still photography sets. He worked regularly as a freelance photo assistant and digital tech for an array of industry leaders including William Abranowicz, James Dimmok, Scott Francis, Douglas Friedman, Austin Hargrove, Alexei Hay, Jeff Lipsky, Nino Munoz, Julia Noni, Frederic Pinet, Richard Powers, David Roemer, Hedi Slimane, and James White, among others.

With an expanse of experience and mentorship, he has become a skilled and versatile photographer. He has worked with a variety of brands spanning a range of industries such as Acura, AT&T, Geffen Records, HGTV, MeUndies, Old Navy, Airbnb, Warner Bros., and World Wildlife Fund. His professional capacity includes portraiture, fashion, lifestyle, and interior/architectural design. Additionally, he continues to explore personal long-term projects in landscapes, graffiti, and capoeira.

Thang currently lives with his partner and two young children in San Francisco, and is professionally based out of Los Angeles and San Francisco. When he is not working he enjoys chile verde burritos, wresting with his kids, riding his Harley, and a good playlist.
